attribute options in uc 5.x-1.3 don't populate

Using Ubercart 5.x-1.3

Created attribute "size" with 5 text options "xsmall, small" etc.

Tried them as radio and dropdown but all I get on the product view page is an empty textbox with the label "size".

It is required, but typing anything in will pass to the next step

I removed and replaced the attribute.

Does it matter that I gave them "0.00" price adjustment?

Were you changing the default settings of the attribute, or the attribute tab on the product edit page? Your theme needs to show secondary local tasks for you to get to attributes easily.

oops! I didn't enable the options on the product

(maybe the directions/documentation could be clearer - or an error message when default text input displays that options are not enabled...)
