Re: CIF - Slovakia

Quick question - are the abbreviations used in this import file standard for addressing locations in Slovakia? They had a different set in the ISO standard at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:SK. I just want to nail it down so I can commit this to core.

Lets use ISO

Im new to CIF files but I suggest using the ISO standard, the standard wojtha used for this CIF is probably invented himself. The other way to go is using car registration codes of regions' capital cities http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Slovakia. That way it would be:

          ."(%d, 703, 'BB', 'Banskobystrický kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'BA', 'Bratislavský kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'KE', 'Košický kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'NR', 'Nitriansky kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'PO', 'Prešovský kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'TN', 'Trenčiansky kraj'),"
          ."(%d, 703, 'TT', 'Trnavský kraj'),"

This is in general, most used naming convention of Regions in Slovakia.

Hi Ryan & borgo, I didn't

Hi Ryan & borgo,

I didn't invent these codes himself, I digg it from various slovak newspapers and from official pages of the Slovak regions.

First I had tried to found these abbreviations at some oficcial Slovak government site, but I didn't ... so I have tried it this way.

These ('my') abreviations is generally used in Slovakia for marking these regions in newspapers and on the official places (even in law, testaments etc.), but I agreed that it is surely not the standard. It marks more the local autonomy itself.

ISO will be better for the "international use", short version of it - car registration codes of Slovakia - will be better for local use (for Czech & Slovak people).

Ryan, if you want to have Übercart "international standard strict" pick the ISO, in other cases pick the "car registration marks" standard for better usability.

Write your decision here, I'll make the changes in the CIF and send it here.

Really, I'm not sure. I

Really, I'm not sure. Smiling I think the end solution, not to happen until the next version, is to use the ISO standard, get rid of the numeric zone IDs, and then let people have a way to change what actually gets displayed.

So perhaps we should go w/ ISO in core, but the contrib here can always have a download w/ explanations for each - no need to erase the existing one.

Re: Really, I'm not sure. I

I finally got to looking into this... if you can update it to the ISO 3166-2, that'd probably be best for core.

Updated ...

Hi Ryan,

Slovak CIF file was updated to ISO 3166-2:SK, as you wish Smiling
